When Aya from Lupicia headquarters contacted me a few weeks ago, I was so excited!
In 2012 I had posted about the beautiful rooftop terrace at the Lupicia tea shop in Jiyugaoka. Lupicia had heard about it and asked me if I would be interested in experiencing their Matcha tea lesson in English.
I said yes!!
This is a very unique matcha tea lesson because of the following key points:
- Fun relaxed atmosphere – It is held in a cosy relaxed room with tables and chairs (a little different from the traditional tea ceremony kneeling on tatami mats and dressed in kimono). Each lesson has 8 participants so it is easy to listen and the teacher will help you personally. Afterwards, you can go upstairs for the delicious lunch in the Lupicia cafe (see photos below of the cafe!)
- Informative seminar – The teacher explains the history as well as the health and beauty benefits of matcha, and how matcha is now popular around the world particularly in New York City!
- English – The lesson is in English! This is one of the few matcha lessons in English in Tokyo, and it is so easy to make a reservation and to access.
Lupicia is a Japanese company with over 400 kinds of fresh teas throughout the year. Just walking into their shop you will be blown away by the huge variety of teas and the beautiful packaging. They also have stores overseas including Melbourne, Australia!
See the Lupicia website here for details about the tea lesson in English and to make a booking. Make sure you say you heard about the lesson from Tokyo Urban Baby!
I highly recommend joining with your girlfriends for a fun few hours while the kids are at school!
