Zoo

Tama Zoo – huge natural zoo in Tokyo

My son had never been to a zoo before and I really wanted his first experience to be memorable. After seeing photos of elephants, giraffes and lions in his picture books and watching videos on YouTube, it was amazing to think this would be his first time to see them in real life!

I really wanted him to see all the animals in the most natural setting as possible. I had heard wonderful reports about Tama Zoo, that it had an open-style, natural setting. We finally went there and it was amazing! Huge zoo spread over 52 hectares, with Africa animals, a huge butterfly house, and even koalas and kangaroos from Australia!

It was a hot day and we had our newborn baby with us, so we only saw the African animals this time, but it was a wonderful trip and truly memorable for our son:)!

After the zoo we went across the road to the Keio Rail-Land railway museum which was also a wonderful break from the hot weather – the museum was all air-conditioned and a nice relief before the car ride home.
