Have you ever moved to a new apartment or house while pregnant or with your children?
I have moved 8 times in the last 12 years that I have been living in Japan, but this time was definitely the hardest. Being huge at 9 months pregnant and with a 2 year old in tow, it was exhausting! But we managed to make it to our new house safely and soundly (and without going into early labour!) and with some fun on the way.
Here are my Top 5 Tips for moving house while heavily pregnant and with a toddler in tow. Be warned – I was absolutely exhausted when I was filming this video, so my voice is not very clear and I don’t look my best:)!
As always, if you have advice or comments, please send me an email or write below this post! I’d love to hear from you.
Your little boy is adorable Kate. Now that your move is over enjoy the last bit of nesting in your beautiful new home before baby arrives. All the best with the birth.
I’ll be taking my first solo longhaul this Summer with our ‘spirited’ 15 month old so must look over your previous guides for tips on keeping her occupied.
Thank you Zoe! All the best with your first overseas travel with your baby:) Hope it all goes well!!
We did a move during my first trimester just before Lucas turned two. These are great tips but I would add two more. The first, although this may be stating the obvious, is get as much help as possible. My mom came to help us out and having her there made a big difference. The second is try to pack your cleaning supplies last and and unpack them first in case of toddler mishaps!
Thank you Rachel!
We moved house when my son was three. There was dome renovations to be done and we thought that both of us will participate and watch him at the same time. This was a bad idea. We both ended up running after him. Eventually I was taking our son for whole days away and my husband did all the work. You should be happy that when you move your baby is in one place all the time.
I gave my little one his one card box to entertain himself, he started putting things in it because he was looking at us, then he took them out and he used it as a car! 🙂 But whatever, it kept him occupied and we could do things much easier!
This must have been a very stressful and exhausting experience. I know what is the feeling of being in the ninth month and I also know the feeling to a have a toddler to look after… I can’t imagine the two things together… and moving house at the same time! You are my hero! Thanks for the tips! 🙂
