We recently updated our Earthquake Emergency Kit. Here are the extra items we bought:
- Satake Magic Rice (long-life rice)
- Gentos Warm white LED lantern
- 20L water tank
- Toilet bags
- Map of Tokyo
- Batteries
- Water (10 x 1L bottles)
- Portable gas stove and spare gas cylinders
All of these items are very important, but the one that really caught my eye was the 20L water tank. If there is a major earthquake, and water, gas and electricity are cut, it is recommended to collect as much water as you can from the tap before the water runs out. In this case, fill this 20L water tank and any other pots, pans and bottles with water so you have a stock for drinking water, cooking, and washing hands.
For a list of our other items in our Emergency Kit see my previous posts here.
