I first met Genevieve Sawtelle from ROMP Photography at the Art and Design Market in December 2012. Her beautiful photos of a recent photoshoot with Katie Van Camp caught my eye (see the photos here!), and afterwards Genevieve came to see our Tokyo Urban Baby stall and to my delight said she’d love to use our House of Wandering Silk bunting in one of her newborn photoshoots! After lots of chatting and seeing more of Genevieve’s AMAZING photography on her website, I asked if I could interview Genevieve about her work and to my excitement she not only said yes, but she also wanted to give a Special Offer for our Tokyo Urban Baby readers!!! Genevieve’s Tips for Newborn Photography:

When should book a newborn photoshoot?

• Recommended to contact your photographer 2-3 months before birth to set a tentative date
• Best time for taking photos of newborns is at 6-10 days old
• If baby is born early or late, you can call your photographer (or send an email) to change the date

How many hours does a newborn photoshoot take?

• Newborn shoots can be quite long – they can last between 3-4 hours or 4-6 hours.
• When the baby is sleeping we take photos, and when the baby is not sleeping we wait. So it can be a long shoot!
• Recommend the parents to take care of themselves. Try and get some sleep the night before (I know that may be difficult!), and have a good breakfast, and have some snacks and drinks ready.

What time do you do newborn photoshoots?

• Whenever the natural light is best. Around 10am for most places.

新生児の撮影について、Genevieveからのアドバイス:

いつ予約したらいいですか?

• 出産予定日の２、３ヶ月前からフォトグラファーに連絡して日程を決めておくといいでしょう
• 新生児の写真を撮るなら、生後６日から１０日がベスト
• 出産予定日より早く／遅く生まれた場合は、フォトグラファーに連絡して日程調整してください

新生児の写真撮影には時間はどのくらいかかりますか?

• 新生児の撮影は結構時間がかかります。３、４時間、あるいは、４、６時間くらいです。
• 赤ちゃんが寝ているときに写真をとって、起きている時は待ち時間。なので、時間がかかるのです。
• パートナーにも協力してもらうことをオススメします。撮影前夜はよく睡眠をとること。 (もちろん、難しいことはわかっているけれど!)。朝食をちゃんと食べて、間食ようの食べ物と飲み物を準備しておきましょう。

何時頃撮影しますか?

• 自然光で撮影できる時間帯ならいつでも。午前１０時頃がいいかしら。
