This morning I received a message from a reader of Tokyo Urban Baby who is looking for a baby-friendly hotel in Tokyo that is close to Haneda Airport and shinkansen. Here is her message and my reply below.

Hi Kate! I’ve been following your blog ever since I booked my plane tickets to visit Japan for the first time, which is coming up in less than a month! I love all the information you’ve provided about baby friendly spots around Tokyo and will definitely try to hit up a few play areas with my baby girl – we’ll be celebrating her 1st birthday while in Japan!
I was curious if you had the time to suggest any neighborhoods for us to stay while in Tokyo? We’re considering both hotels and other options like a bnb since it might be easier with our child to have fridge/stove. We have a late arrival into Haneda (around 10pm) and will be traveling onto Kyoto/Osaka by train afterwards. Safety and convenience to explore/proximity to trains) are our priorities.
Btw, I especially appreciate the info about the formula milk packets you featured on the blog since we may have a need for it while we’re abroad. Thanks in advance for your time and I hope you keep the blog going, it’s great!

Thanks for your message! I’m so happy to hear Tokyo Urban Baby has been helping you plan your trip here with your baby (^^)!
The first hotel that comes to mind in terms of convenient location is the Shinagawa Prince Hotel. This hotel is located just across the road from Shinagawa Station, which is a major station with easy access to Haneda Airport. You can also catch the shinkansen (bullet train) from this station to Kyoto/Osaka, and also the Yamanote-Line to major shopping/sightseeing areas in Tokyo such as Shibuya and Harajuku. Many of my friends have stayed there before as it is conveniently located. However, I’ve heard that depending on what room you book the guest rooms can be quite basic (like a business hotel), so if you are looking for something more gorgeous this may not be the best place!
Another hotel recommended by a reader of Tokyo Urban Baby is the apartment style Kitano Arms Hotel in Yurakucho, near the New Otani (Thanks Tara!). Tara stayed there recently with her husband and two young children, and they booked the 43m sq. apartment style room with kitchenette through the Agoda online booking website.
Remember, if you need a baby cot, make sure you email the hotel separately and book one:)! To give you an idea of what it will be like, here is a post of our stay at Hotel Nikko in Odaiba when our baby was 6 months old:)
Hope this helps and have a wonderful trip!
